Some little luxuries

The term "luxury" is tricky. To most people, it means something that is expensive or high quality; even the dictionary describes luxury as "the state of great comfort and extravagant living". 

 Personally, I relate to the "great comfort" aspect more so than the extravagant living one for a couple reasons: 
1. I truly enjoy the simple things in life
   2. Let's be real, extravagant = expensive

So, I thought I'd list out my favorite little luxuries; these are the little things I do that are cozy, comforting, and just make me happy.

Candles
I love burning one on my stove, kitchen table, and bedside table. I'm not a brand snob. I've even loved candles from my local drugstore. Anything pine, apple or vanilla scented is my jam. 

Reading by the "fireplace"
Nothing feels more luxurious than indulging in a chapter or two in front of your fireplace- whether its real or, in my case, faux.  

Really thick moisturizer
I have been OBSESSED with the Anew Skinvincible Deep Recovery Cream. I have SUUUUUUPER dry skin, so my skin just loves this stuff. It's super thick and makes my face feel so smooth and hydrated after application. I put on a generous amount. It's marketed for night time, but I use it both day and night because I find most day creams are not moisturizing enough. 

Fluffy blanket and coffee
There is nothing better than waking up and getting a few minutes to relax with your coffee under a super soft fleece blanket.

Walking around the bookstore 
I could spend HOURS in a Barnes and Noble. I love walking around, taking in all the different books and journals and bookmarks. It's almost like life slows down when I'm in a bookstore. I haven't been in a while, so I think I will have to make it a priority next weekend. 

Buy yourself some fresh flowers
Because, why not? Nothing cheers up a space more than some fresh flowers in a beautiful vase. I try to do this at least once a month. Treat yourself!

Hello Friday, we meet again! Man am I glad it's the weekend. Let's talk favorites, shall we?  My meal plan this week has been one of my favorites so far. It was super delicious and had really easy recipes! This week's lineup was: tacos, beef stir fry, chicken and broccoli casserole, homemade pizza, teriyaki chicken and veggies, and fajitas. I love that the meals we chose had only a few, really simple ingredients that are pantry staples, which made my grocery bill very reasonable. I also tried out a new recipe this week- slow cooker chicken and stuffing and it was so delicious. I made it for myself when Val went out for guys' night- he doesn't eat stuffing so I took advantage of him being out of the house haha. Speaking of meal plans, I purchased a meal planning kit from Passionate Penny Pincher . Friday Favorites! A hodge podge of random things

The other day I was going through Goodreads, picking out books I wanted to add to my library wishlist (I always say, searching for books is a completely separate hobby from reading, lol!). I came across Fredrick Bachman's newest release,  Anxious People . I always look at the quotes page to see if I vibe with the author's writing style. Man, does this book have some nuggets of wisdom! There are so many poignant quotes. This one resonated with me, just thinking about how overwhelming life can get when all those little things pile up: "Because the terrible thing about becoming an adult is being forced to realize that absolutely nobody cares about us, we have to deal with everything ourselves now, find out how the whole world works. Work and pay bills, use dental floss and get to meetings on time, stand in line and fill out forms, come to grips with cables and put furniture together, change tires on the car and charge the phone and switch the coffee machine off and not forget...

Linking up today with  Anne  and  Kristen  to talk about all things life currently. Admiring  how people can read so many books per month. I try to read nightly, but sometimes by that time my brain doesn't have enough "oomph" to tolerate thinking anymore. Lately I'm lucky if I get in 20 pages before falling asleep. Playing  Jack Johnson radio on Pandora. I've loved him for over a decade now. I rediscovered the station last week and have been playing it nonstop since. Also playing with decor around the house. I've been moving things around and using what I have to create what I think is a pretty cute space! I love our home and taking care of it brings me so much joy.  Borrowing  SO many books from Scribd.
