Sometimes, I just need to talk about it | my 2 AM thoughts on infertility

"I'll leave the test on the counter just in case it changes its mind," I joked to my husband. So there it sat until the next morning, when I walked in to the bathroom to a negative staring me back in the face. I threw it away with tears in my eyes because let's face it- I was only half-kidding, and was hoping deep-down it would miraculously change from "not pregnant" to "pregnant" over night.  Yeah right, Felicia, it doesn't work like that.  I rarely allow myself to test because I don't want to get our hopes up- but for some reason, this month I was particularly hopeful. Maybe it's because I have just lost a significant amount of  weight , and everyone has been telling me "my cousin's friend's sister lost 10 pounds and then poof, she was pregnant!" Or maybe its because my new doctor told me that several of her patients "fell pregnant" on the medication she prescribed me. Or maybe because my RE said that ...

Friday Favorites | yankee swap, icy morning delays, quality time, and finishing books!

Image
TGIF! I can't believe it's already Friday and that Christmas is literally next week. This week was a fun one. I guess my first favorite was that my husband had the week off. Even though I had to work, I made sure to wrap up my work days early so that we could go on a little date every night. It made me question why I don't do that more often. I work really late, oftentimes without even realizing it, so I only get to see my hubby for an hour or so he leaves for work (he works third shift, overnights). I want to start making more of an effort to leave work on time. If I don't finish everything on my to-do list, then oh well it can just wait until tomorrow. Anyway, that was a random tangent- let's get to the rest of my favorites from the week!  icy morning delay, work party, and yankee swap.   This week we had our quarterly all-day staff meeting and decided to do a Christmas brunch and yankee swap exchange. We were supposed to start at 9:30, but early in the morn...

The BEST chicken salad recipe!

I love chicken salad! I rarely make it though, and I'm not sure why- after using this recipe, I realized just how easy it is. Here is the chicken salad recipe I am currently obsessed with, courtesy of Sandy's Kitchen Adventures . Ingredients: 10.5 ounces cooked chicken, cubed or shredded (I used a rotisserie chicken from the grocery store) ½ cup celery, chopped ¼ cup plain low fat Greek yogurt 3 tbsp light mayonnaise 2 tsp dijon mustard ¼ tsp salt ¼ tsp black pepper ¼ tsp onion powder 1 ounce walnuts, chopped (optional) This recipe is super easy! Just combine all ingredients in a large bowl, and stir until combined. For my "bread" I had two options: baby cauliflower pizza crusts to make sandwich thins, and butter lettuce wraps. It was so delicious and I am going to make this a staple in my lunch rotation.  If you want the cauliflower pizza crust recipe, here it is (again, credit to Sandy's Kitchen): Ingredients:  1 oz....

Confessions | No. 2

Every time I see or do one of these posts, all I can think of is the Usher song and automatically start singing, These are my confessions... well, here's round 2 of my confessions! I confess... that the lint in the laundry lint trap grosses me out... and I actually use a paper towel to take it out. My husband thinks I'm nuts. He's probably right. I confess... that I am SO not tech-savvy and I have to Google how to do everything. For instance, at the moment I can't figure out how to reply to my blog comments. I also can't comment on blogs under my blog/ email account, instead it always wants to link to my work email- and that is something I DEFINITELY don't want. I even deleted my work email from my phone to see if that would help. I need help! Any suggestions??? I confess...  that not eating carbs is REALLY hard. The program I am doing is genuinely easy, but the fact that my meals are only protein and vegetables is SO different for me! Ever since I w...

Playing with my nieces and nephew, getting my nails done, and FINALLY organizing my office closet

This weekend was the best one I've had in a while. I am so thankful! It was nice to have some alone/ home time but I loved mixing in plans with family and friends. It was a good balance that I want to try to incorporate more often.  Saturday started off bright and early and I got a manicure/ pedicure with my best friend. I got a classic red for both. Good conversations were had and it was nice to spend some time with her, as always. I ran home to get some basic cleaning done, and then headed to the Dollar Tree to stock up on greeting cards. I have a box full of them so that I never have to run out last minute before a party. It's probably one of my favorite life hacks.  In the afternoon, I had my niece's birthday party at our local Children's Museum. It's so cute in there! There are several different rooms that have various themes. There's a "clinic" doctor room, a technology room, an arts and crafts room, a water room, and even an indoor play...

Friday Favorites | Comfiest sweater ever, beautiful bedding, Christmas lights, and duck boots.

Happy happy Friday, friends. I'm so thankful it's the weekend. Last weekend was Thanksgiving, so it was crazy busy. This weekend is a loooot slower, which I couldn't be happier about! I have a nail appointment with my bestie and my niece's birthday party at the local Children's Museum but other than that, I am going to have a lot of time to relax. Can't wait. This edition of Friday Favorites is pretty random, as usual. I love doing this weekly post because it makes me really pay attention to the little things in life that make me smile. I hope you can find simple joys in your day-to-day life, too.  comfiest sweater, ever. Guys, I am on the American Eagle train lately and I cannot stop! This sweatshirt is the most comfy thing I have ever worn and I have it in three colors! If you're going to order it, I suggest maybe sizing down. It's an oversize fit that looks so cute with jeans and booties. So cute! And I am going to love wearing this around the hous...

Currently | December 2019

Happy  December, everyone! I'm finally able to participate again in Anne's Currently and Kristen's What's New With You link-ups. The last time I did one was September and I've missed joining in on the fun! This month we are talking all about holiday happenings.  Currently, I am...  (not)   wrapping. Considering I haven't started my Christmas shopping yet (yikes!), I'm not wrapping anything. We usually just buy for the kiddos, our parents, and close friends. I try not to get crazy and keep it simple. Christmas shopping stresses me out and I put it off every year, it seems.  baking. Do casseroles count? Ha! I've been having a lot of those, specifically using spaghetti squash. The other day I made a spaghetti squash Mexican beef casserole and I about died, it was that good. I might make that again for dinner this week. Then I (attempted) a spaghetti squash lasagna casserole. Man, did that one flop. Oh well, you liv...

Monthly To-Do's | December 2019

It's been a while since I've written a goals post. Here goes- might as well finish off the year with a bang! finish decluttering my kitchen cabinets. I've done most of my cabinets by now, but my pots and pans cabinet is stressing me out! I bought some organizers for it, but I can't seem to make them fit. Newbie mistake. Make sure you measure before you purchase! scrub down the kitchen cabinets. Self-explanatory. My kitchen could use a deep clean before the new year hits. finish Christmas shopping by the 20th. This is ALWAYS a December goal of mine. I hate Christmas shopping. And I hate even more shopping up until Christmas Eve.  purchase a fiddle leaf fig for my living room. I've been looking for a realistic one for a while for the blank spot near my buffet table in the kitchen/ living room.  try 3 new recipes. I love to cook and trying out new recipes! It's especially important now because I've cut out carbs. New recipes help to keep things...

Thanksgiving, shopping, decorating for Christmas, meal prep, and cleaning

I hope everyone had a wonderful, family-filled Thanksgiving! I certainly did- I spent time with family and friends 3 out of 4 days of my Thanksgiving break. I of course forgot to take photos, but here's what I got up to over the long weekend!  My company has Thanksgiving and Black Friday off, so I only worked until Wednesday last week. That was SO nice. I wrapped up work at 6:00 on Wednesday and flew home to be with my little family for the night.  Thursday was Thanksgiving! I had TWO events to go to- my Mom's for lunch, then my in-laws' for dinner. But first, my hubby and I watched the Thanksgiving Day Parade. I always love getting to see the floats. I was worried they weren't going to be able to fly the balloons this year because of the winds, but they did! I was shocked at how low the balloons were flying. I loved seeing the performances- the Broadway casts that performed were especially amazing! I also adore the marching bands. I used to be in my high schoo...
